All UTC Offsets & Time Zones

Every UTC offset from UTC-12 to UTC+14 — with countries, major cities and live current times. The complete world time zone reference.

What is a UTC offset?

A UTC offset is the difference between a location's local time and UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) — the global reference point for all time zones. UTC+1 means 1 hour ahead of UTC, UTC-5 means 5 hours behind. Every location on Earth has a UTC offset that determines what time their clocks show.

UTC vs GMT — what's the difference?

GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) and UTC are nearly identical — both use the Prime Meridian in Greenwich, London as their reference. The difference is that UTC is based on atomic clocks and occasionally adds leap seconds to stay accurate, while GMT is based on astronomical observation. For everyday purposes they are interchangeable.

Half-hour and quarter-hour offsets

Most time zones are whole-hour offsets, but some countries use unusual half-hour or quarter-hour offsets. India uses UTC+5:30, Iran uses UTC+3:30, Nepal uses UTC+5:45, and Australia's Northern Territory uses UTC+9:30. These unusual offsets are chosen to best match solar noon at the geographic center of each region.
